Electric Wood Hammer Mill Overview

The Electric Wood Hammer Mill is a high-speed crushing machine that uses hammers mounted on a rotating shaft to smash and pulverize wood and agricultural residues into fine particles or powder. It is ideal for biomass processing and is commonly used in wood pellet plants, charcoal briquette production lines, and animal feed manufacturing facilities. We supply several models of biomass hammer mills with capacities ranging from 100 kg/h to 1,000 kg/h to meet your biomass processing needs.

Biomass materials with a diameter larger than 5mm can not be used to make pellets directly. You need to grind them into sawdust or powder particles using a biomass hammer mill first. We supply two types of wood hammer mills: the electric wood hammer mill and the diesel wood hammer mill. You can choose it depending on your energy resource. If your materials are wood logs, you need to use a wood chipper for preprocessing before a wood crusher or a wood hammer mill.

Electric Wood Hammer Mill Working Principle

Raw materials are fed into the hopper and fall into the grinding chamber, where they are hit and shattered by fast-rotating hammers. These hammers create high-impact collisions that break the materials into smaller particles. The ground material is then passed through a perforated screen, and the size of the final product is determined by the mesh size of the screen.

Wood Hammer Mill Structures and Main Components

    • Feeding Hopper – Accepts raw materials.
    • Crushing Chamber – Contains rotating hammers/blades.
    • Rotor – High-speed rotating shaft holding the hammers.
    • Screen Mesh – Controls the particle size of output.
    • Electric Motor – Provides power to rotate the rotor.
    • Base Frame – Ensures machine stability.
    • Cyclone (Optional) – For dust collection and discharge.

    Electric Wood Hammer Mill Features

    • High-Speed Grinding: Rotating hammers ensure fast, even, and efficient crushing.
    • Adjustable Output Size: Changeable screen mesh from 2 mm to 10 mm.
    • Electric Driven: Clean, stable, and efficient power source. Safe to operate, low noise, stable working.
    • Durable Hammers: Made of hardened steel, suitable for long-term use.
    • Stable Structure: Heavy-duty base reduces vibration.
    • Cyclone Collector (optional): Keeps work area dust-free and improves discharge.
    • Easy Maintenance: Quick access to internal parts for blade or screen replacement.
    • Wide Material Applications: Wood chips. Tree branches. Bark. Coconut shells. Corn stalks. Cotton stalks. Wheat straw. Bamboo. Rice husks and Other agricultural waste.

    Electric vs. Diesel Hammer Mills

Feature Electric Hammer Mill Diesel Hammer Mill
    Power Source Electricity Diesel fuel
Best For Stable power environments Off-grid or low-electricity regions
Cost Lower running cost Higher fuel cost
    Portability Stationary Portable/mobile

    Biomass Hammer Mill Applications

    • Biomass pellet production
    • Charcoal briquettes production
    • Fertilizer composting. Mushroom substrate preparation
    • Animal bedding. Animal feed grinding

    Wood Hammer Mill Advantages

    • More effective for grinding fibrous or light materials
    • Better for producing fine powder or consistent sizes
    • Suitable for use before pellet mills or briquette presses
    • More energy-efficient compared to larger crushers

      Wood Hammer Mill FAQs

The electric wood hammer mill is used to crush wood chips, branches, agricultural residues, straw, and other biomass materials into small particles or powder. It’s widely applied in wood pellet production, charcoal briquette lines, animal bedding, and mushroom substrate preparation.

      It can process:
      Wood chips
      Tree branches
      Bark
      Coconut shells
      Crop stalks (corn, wheat, cotton)
      Bamboo
      Rice husks
      Grass and straw

The output size ranges from 2 mm to 8 mm, depending on the screen mesh installed. You can choose or change the mesh based on your specific needs.

It is not recommended to process very wet materials. For best results, keep the moisture content below 15%. Wet materials may clog the machine and reduce efficiency.

      • A wood chipper machine cuts wood into chips, not fine particles.
      • A wood crusher machine handles larger logs but may not produce fine powder.
      • The hammer mill is designed for fine grinding and produces uniform particles, ideal for pelletizing or briquetting.

Dust can be generated during crushing, but we offer optional cyclone dust collectors to capture particles and keep your workspace clean.

Yes. We supply replacement hammers, screens, belts, bearings, and other wear parts. Regular maintenance will extend machine life.

Yes. The hammer mill can be integrated with conveyors, pellet mills, biomass dryers, or bagging machines to form a complete biomass pellet production line.

      • Regularly inspect and replace worn hammers and screens.
