Large Rotary Drum Sawdust Dryer Overview
Commonly used for drying high-volume biomass materials like sawdust, wood chips, straw, and more
The Rotary Drum Sawdust Dryer is a large drying machine designed for continuous and efficient drying of large quantities of biomass materials. It consists of a rotating drum cylinder, a heat source, a feeding system, and a discharging system. It can dry a wide range of biomass materials highly efficiently with capacities ranging from 2.5 t/h to 36 t/h. This dryer is ideal for large-scale impianti a pellet di legno, charcoal production lines, and biomass fuel factories.
Why Sawdust Dryer Needed in Biomass Pellet Plants
The Sawdust dryer is important and indispensable drying equipment in the production of wood pellets or briquettes, which can dry the high moisture content of materials to be optimal (11-17%) level for pelletizing. Besides, biomass materials that go through a dryer can improve biomass fuel efficiency by 5-15% and lower emissions. There are two types of sawdust dryers. One is the rotary drum sawdust dryer, another one is the pipe type airflow sawdust dryer. The Rotary sawdust dryer is for the big processing capacity, and the airflow sawdust dryer is for small processing capacity.

Rotary Drum Sawdust Dryer Features
- High Drying Intensity: since the material is highly dispersed in the air stream. The entire surface area of the particles is the entire effective area of the particles for drying. Uniform drying due to the rotating and lifting structure results in good drying effects.
- Large Drying Capacity: High-capacity drying solution (up to 2–36 tons/h or more). Sturdy and durable with a heavy-duty steel design.
- High Expandability: A wide range of materials can be dried. Strong adaptability to moisture content and material size.
- Energy Saving Environment Friendly: Low energy consumption per ton of dried material. The special design hot air furnace can supply clean hot air for the rotary dryer, and there is little dust and noise during the working process.

Rotary Drum Sawdust Dryer Working Principle
- Materials Feeding. Wet sawdust or wood chips are fed into the rotary drum via a screw conveyor or belt feeder.
- Hot Air Generation. A hot air stove or furnace produces high-temperature air, which enters the drum through an insulated air duct.
- Rotary Drying. As the drum rotates, lifting plates inside the cylinder toss and scatter the materials evenly, exposing them to hot air and enhancing heat exchange.
- Moisture Evaporation. The high-temperature airflow evaporates the moisture, and dried materials are transported to the discharging end by gravity and rotation.
- Collection. A cyclone separator or dust collector removes fine particles and steam, while the dry material is discharged for further use.
