Alfalfa Pellet Production Line Overview

Customize a poultry feed production line or biomass fuel pellet plant

An alfalfa pellet production line is a complete system designed to process fresh or dried alfalfa grass into compact, uniform pellets used as livestock feed or biomass fuel. Alfalfa pellets are rich in protein, fiber, and other nutrients, making them ideal for feeding cattle, sheep, horses, and rabbits. The production line mainly consists of alfalfa crushing machines, alfalfa drying equipment, alfalfa pellet machines, alfalfa pellet cooler, and alfalfa pellets packing machine. We offer completely alfalfa pellet production lines with capacities ranging from 500 kg/h to 10 tons/h. The alfalfa pellet plants are customized to meet your specific conditions.

Alfalfa Pelletizing Production

Applications of Alfalfa Pellets

  • Animal Feed: For dairy cows, beef cattle, goats, sheep, and horses. They are easily digested and absorbed.
  • Pet and Small Animal Feed: Rabbits, guinea pigs, etc.
  • For Animal Bedding In Farms.
  • Biomass Fuel: Can be burned in pellet stoves or boilers in emergencies or mixed with wood pellets. It has high calorific value, low ash content, and does not pollute the environment.
  • Advantages of Alfalfa Pellets: Long shelf life; Easy storage and transportation; Less waste compared to loose alfalfa; Better animal digestion and feeding efficiency

We offer turnkey projects for various pellet production lines. Whether you want to build a complete pellet production line or need to add some equipment to your existing biomass pellet plant, we are always here to support.

Alfalfa Pellet Production Line Working Process

    1. Alfalfa Cutting And Cleaning
Shreds fresh or dried alfalfa into smaller pieces for better pelletizing. Optional, depending on the alfalfa raw material conditions, then, it is necessary to clean the alfalfa grass to avoid the impurities and stones contained in the alfalfa grass from damaging the crushing equipment.

    2. Alfalfa Crushing
Grinds chopped alfalfa into small pieces in a 2-3mm size suitable for pelletizing. If the size of alfalfa grass is too big, it will cause the pellet machine to clog and affect the production line’s operation.

    3. Alfalfa Drying (Optional)
Removes moisture from fresh alfalfa to ensure ideal pelletizing moisture (13–18%), which is the most suitable moisture content for pelletizing. The moisture content of alfalfa grass is a key factor affecting the quality of alfalfa pellets.

    4. Alfalfa Pelletizing (Flat Die or Ring Die Pellet Machine)
Presses powdered alfalfa into uniform cylindrical pellets. Flat die pellet machine suitable for small-scale; ring die pellet machine for large-scale industrial use.
The Alfalfa material enters the biomass pellet machines from a stainless steel feeder with anti-caking bins, and it is pelletized into solid alfalfa pellets that are extruded through the die holes by the ring die and pressure rollers. The size of the alfalfa pellets can be controlled by changing the ring die and adjusting the cutter equipment.

    5. Pellet Cooler
Cools down hot and soft pellets to harden and reduce breakage.
The alfalfa pellets coming out of the pellet mill are high in moisture and heat. A counterflow pellet cooler is equipped to cool the alfalfa pellets to room temperature quickly.

    6. Pellet Screening and Packing
Removes fines and broken pellets. Automatic Weighs and packages the finished alfalfa pellets in bags (5kg–50kg). The cooled alfalfa pellets can also be directly stacked according to your conditions.

      Alfalfa Pellet Plants FAQs

The lines are designed mainly for fresh-cut or sun-dried alfalfa grass, but they can also process similar forage like clover, hay, ryegrass, and other fibrous green materials.

Yes, the moisture content should ideally be between 13% and 18% for efficient pelletizing. If your alfalfa is freshly harvested and too wet, a dryer is recommended.

The most common pellet diameters are 4mm, 6mm, and 8mm, depending on the animal species. For rabbits and small animals, 4–6mm is best; for cattle or horses, 6–8mm is suitable.

We offer solutions from 500 kg/h (for small farms or startups) up to 10 tons/hour for commercial-scale operations.

Yes, we provide customized configurations based on your budget, raw material form (fresh or dry), space availability, and production goals.

      Depending on the scale:
Flat die pellet mills are used for small-scale production.
Ring die pellet mills are recommended for large-scale continuous operations.

Yes, we provide on-site or remote installation guidance, technical training, operation manuals, and spare parts support.

Yes, with slight adjustments, the line can handle similar fibrous materials, such as corn stalks, wheat straw, rice husks, grass, and other crop residues.

Yes, for remote areas with limited electricity, we offer diesel-powered options or generator-compatible configurations upon request.

      Prices vary widely based on:
      Capacity
      Automation level
      Customization
A small setup may start at $10,000–$20,000, while a large commercial line can reach $100,000 or more. Please feel free to contact us for a quote.
